Rising star Simpson has been going to work all year. On October 6, 2020, she released her fourth single "Cherry Ice Cream Sundae" giving a hint of poetry with a complete melodic immersion into her rendition of R&B.
What started a freestyle she conjured up in her room soon became a full piece of art as she connected the message to the times. Produced by James Dring and Emily Lazar, with saxophone elements by David Winograd, the hints of jazz and neo-soul set the mood to the dreamy and introspective tone felt throughout. Taking similarities from Cotton Candy on a Rainy Day by Nikki Giovanni, the Washington, D.C. native reminds us all to take care regardless the circumstances.

"Who are we when we allow ourselves to be whole, unfiltered, messy and kind of like ice cream? We get a spoon to share with a friend. We all crowd under one small umbrella to shield ourselves from the rain. Small gestures like these can be a world of difference. They remind us that we are already whole, good, and deserve to treat ourselves with as much tenderness as we treat everyone else," Simpson said of the inspiration behind the track.
With a smooth voice that touches lightly on the soul, "Cherry Ice Cream Sundae" in fact serves it's purpose in full. An energy washes over to relax, a melody with lyrics that ease and heals wounds. Simpson hit the nail on the head, giving self care a new song with historical ties.
