As the new year rolls in we are met with a plethora of new trends, in other words, recycled styles. Now, this is to be expected being that history always repeats itself, it is no different for fashion.
Many of the latest trends have been regurgitated from the past. The ’70s - ’90s and even early 2000’s gear is idolized by today’s Gen Z fashion moguls. Many popular brands have been keeping up with them in order to supply the demand, giving styles an updated twist to make us forget about the years we swore to never wear certain pieces. However bad we thought they were, we surely changed our minds in 2020 making for a very interesting 2021 style guide. We saw the comeback of so many different pieces, all with aggressive force. Comfort became cool and we somehow managed to make everyday fits luxurious.
Take a look at our five items that went crazy in 2020 and are expected to stick it out for 2021!
1.Crocs
At one point in time, Crocs were considered illegal by the fashion police. Many wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of these slip-resistant kicks for no reason other than work.
Little did we know, they are actually a very high-end brand. Contrary to popular belief,
they actually aren't plastic or rubber, but a non-toxic material known as Closlite engineered to resist odor. All that science went into such a stylishly ugly shoe.
Flash forward to the present and Crocs are a commodity in pop culture. They are easily one of the most popular slip-on shoes.
Now that they have grown on us, many companies such as SHEIN and Fashion Nova have created more affordable options.
Not only do they come in an array of colors, but they also have charms that you can sport... as well as the fact that they are undeniably comfortable. You may want to get your hands on a pair of these Croslite clogs.
2. Bucket Hats
Bucket hats have always been a staple in the fashion world. In this current age, there are more bucket hats than ever: faux fur, tie-dye, brimmers, almost every athletic brand such as Nike and Champion have put out their own bucket hat, not to mention, they even make bucket hats for babies.
There is arguably a bucket hat for everyone. Right now you could pair one with almost any outfit. The last time bucket hats got this much static was in the ’90s and then again in the 2010s. Now they’ve got another wave of popularity another decade later.
3. Combat Boots
The alternative fashion industry has spoken, combat boots have eased their way into pop culture. A popular look that includes combat boots is the alt-emo, grunge style that dominated TikTok with the “E-girl” trend. London Fashion Week was crawling with combat boots pair with high fashion outfits, breaking traditional barriers.
On the other hand, military-themed outfits have been normalized for years. Remember the camo trend back in the 2010s? Not only is it popular with the alternative crowd, but almost anyone can pull them off. Most people tend to orchestrate an outfit with combat boots and camo pants, which is safe but basic.
4. Faux Fur
Faux fur is the key to an elaborately bougie outfit, in my opinion. Now, there’s plenty of it out there, but it is easy to overdo it, which is also a fire look if that’s what you’re going for. Artists such as Safaree, Saweetie, and Lil Kim based their look around excessive fur looks but real animal fur is the norm for celebrities.
Coats, shirts, hats, and even bikinis have been manufactured using faux fur and that just shows the people love the fur. Even some celebrities have popularized the use of faux over authentic fur in order to become more woke and probably to avoid the burden of having to protect themselves from PETA extremists. Between the fact that they are making every article of clothing, you could think of out of faux fur and the endless combinations that can be made to pull off a nice fit should be enough for you to order one right now.
5. Turtle Necks
Everybody wears turtlenecks unless you're one of those people that find them utterly uncomfortable. However, turtle necks had a minor setback for a major comeback. Almost every notable fashion-conscious celebrity has slipped at least one or two turtlenecks into their styles.
The turtle neck paired with a gold chain aesthetic is unmatched. The versatility that the turtleneck harnesses could put the camisole to shame. You could wear it with flannels, T-shirts, crewnecks, high-waisted jeans, mom jeans, sweatpants, and even a blazer… all while staying warm and looking like a saucy Steve Jobs or Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in his famous throwback pic.
