New Orleans native and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Lucky Daye grooves into the new year with his latest release just before Valentine’s Day: the star-studded Table for Two EP featuring artists such as Ari Lennox, YEBBA, Mahalia, and more amongst its six singles and intro track.

Despite the EP title’s romantic connotations and the songs’ smooth crooning, the tracks within Table for Two explore more than Lucky Daye’s sensual side as the R&B musician delves into the melancholy of imperfect love, one-sided affection, commitment issues, breakups, and other romantic woes. Table for Two is for everyone who can’t relate to that picture-perfect flowers and chocolate love this Valentine’s Day season.

Standouts among the seven-track include “On Read”—a collaboration with Grammy-nominated East London singer Tiana Major9—in which the soulful melodies of Daye and Major9 contemplate the emotions resulting from being left on read by a lover, and “Access Denied” featuring Ari Lennox, which samples Curtis Mayfield’s “Give Me Your Love” while two lovers simultaneously run towards and away from their feelings.

Accompanying the album, Lucky Daye released a Table for Two visual poem on Youtube described as a “meditative experience for the lonely and forgotten.” The video pairs shots of a restless, lovelorn Lucky Daye with the pining lyrics of the EP’s tracks in a well-matched complement to the yearning frustration Table for Two addresses.
