Raleigh, North Carolina born and bred rapper, producer and director Mez dropped visuals for his latest single, "Southside Mez."
Young, talented, and fearless, Mez masterminded the entire track, from production to direction, the engine behind "Southside Mez" is all Mez. Back to remind people he's more than a writer and producer for Dr. Dre and Dreamville, but an artist that can talk the shit for himself. As he places himself in the world, his art speaks to the past, present, and future.
full of power and pizzaz, "Southside Mez" debut is combined with a visual that travels back to days spent finding yourself amongst your surroundings. For Mez, that included understanding his position as a Black man growing up in the south. "Southside Mez" adds to the conversation of who America views is human while amplifying the voice of Black men worldwide.
“We’ve seen the same story throughout history. Police are notorious for the mistreatment of young black boys and handling them as men. We threatened them even in our youth.” Mez says speaking to the systematic racial structures that target the Black community. “As a result of these experiences, we actually do change for the worse."
From his point of view, "Southside Mez" visuals highlight the ways many Black men specifically begin life and end life on two different ends of the spectrum of life.
"We are, in many ways, baptized by life, and we end up coming out the other side as street n*ggas — but we never start out that way.”
