Chicago rapper Nina Tech draws viewers into a playful bedtime story with the trippy new music video for her track “Hocus Pocus” from her debut album Nina Gone Wild.
Divided into eight brief chapters, each section of the “Hocus Pocus” video allows Nina Tech to delve into original characters rife with childhood sentimentality, from comic-book superheroes and villains to mad scientists and shadow puppets. “Every character in the video played a role in my childhood so I was nostalgic the entire shoot and all I could think about is how cool the younger me would think I was,” Nina says of her many personas throughout the video.
Growing up as the youngest of three children on the Southside of Chicago Nina Tech frequently employed her vivid imagination as a form of entertainment. Her “Hocus Pocus” video uses that same youthful creativity to produce visuals that are just as amusing as they are mesmerizing.
Beyond her multifaceted roles, the “baddest bitch in the land” Nina Tech spits hard-hitting verses that exude self-confidence over the playful background track of “Hocus Pocus,” juxtaposing childlike imagery with lyrics that assert the rapper’s mature sense of self.
