New month, new goals, and for Tropa Magica, that means a new album. The Pacheco brothers, David and Rene, do it again with their second album Tripiando Al Infinito En Mi Recámara (Tripping Into Infinity in My Bedroom). This East Los Angeles band brings to us a unique sound that they like to call “Psychedelic Cumbia Punk”- which is quite different from the cumbia your Tias and Abuelitas dance to. Tropa Magica combines diverse instruments that blend the naturals of surf, chicha (Peruvian cumbia), and disco.
“When people hear something, and it sounds like us than it most likely is because it's such a unique sound,” said David.
This 12 song album includes both Spanish and English versions of “Feels Like Tijuana,” which happens to be the theme song for comedian Felipe Esparza’s new Netflix special, Bad Decisions, and Malas Decisiones. This premiered earlier this week featuring David and Rene playing guitar and the accordion to their intro song.
David and Rene never fail to express their importance of connecting to their cultural roots, and their album Tripiando Al Infinito En Mi Recámara proves so. Take a look at their album cover which happens to be young David and Rene sitting in an old graveyard in their parents’ hometown in Puebla, Mexico - demonstrating that their cultural background shaped who they are today.
“This album is an album that we did for ourselves, but we always come back, to the roots,” said Rene.
Finally, there's a band that not only gets us up and moving but reminds of our authentic Latino culture. Tripiando Al Infinito En Mi Recámara is streaming now on all platforms!
